Quick question. Is the o-ring lubrication for the Canon o-rings the same kind as you would use to lubricate o-rings on lights, etc.? Or is there a special formulation of grease for your camera.

Thanks in advance!!!

Okay I'm going to repeat the mantra I've heard.."only use the grease made for your camera's oring". Here's one of the reasons. Supposedly some greases are a little thicker than others and are made to help the oring "stick" in the groove. IE you won't pinch it in the case while shutting it. Others have told me that some greases are designed to make the oring swell which could have terrible consequences if you use the wrong kind.

I've heard the same thing the ce4jesus refers to. But I can say that I used several types of silicone grease with my Motormarine camera without any issue and I've used Motormarine silicone grease with the Canon housing with no problem.

That said, please don't blame me if you have a problem :-) I think the most important thing is not use too much grease. The O-ring should only feel slightly tacky/sticky - if it feels slippery you are using too much grease.
