Hi team

I have a voucher for a week's accommodation at either Nusa Dua in Indonesia or at Denaura Island in Fiji.

Has anyone dived either of these areas and if so, do you have any comments or recommendations? Even if that is don't bother with either! :dontknow:

Thanks
:blinking:

G'Day.

I haven't dived Fiji yet but I can comment a bit about Bali in general.

Nusa Dua is more or less the furthest away from the (good) divesites on Bali as you can get. This means about 1 to 2 (depending on the traffic) hours drive by car to a place from which you can go diving around Nusa Penida (Manta Point) which then is another 30 min to 1hour trip by boat. If you want to go to the North/North-East of Bali like Tulamben with the wreck of the Liberty it's more like a half-day trip one-way!
Diving in the South of Bali is not good especially as your profile says that you have more than 1000 dives under your belt ;-)

Knowing that you got free accommodation (hotels are really good in Nusa Dua but for me it would be too boring at night with nightlife in Kuta about 30 to 50 min by taxi away **) I would recommend that, if you want to do some dives on Bali, you considder staying one or two nights in or around Tulamben which is not that expansive but you save yourself the trouble going there. Diving Manta Point shouldn't be a bigger problem for a day-trip.

HTH,

Andy

**) I know not everyone is keen on nightlife on Bali but I know many Aussies who go there just for it.

Thanks Andy. I have heard Tulamben is fantastic, and given your comments, I think I'll just organise a trip up there sometime and forget Nusa Dua. I'm a bit past the night life!! ;) Need to conserve all my energy for diving and sorting photos.... :vintagediver:

We hate to tell you this but you will not get the best of Fiji diving by staying on Denaura either. it is a man made island with resorts all around it and is a big stop for people in between cruises and so fourth. we stayed at the westin for a couple of days before and taking a liveaboard dive trip on the Naia and thought the westin is nice a I would not have wanted to spend our whole fiji experience ther. By the way the Naia was fantastic. You will be able to have the diving be a bit more convenient than as mentioned in Nusa Duo.
But it would be hard to go wrong either way with a free stay and you may want to decide which one to go to more by things such as airfare, travel time as Fiji looks to be closer for you and other things you may want to see and do besides dive. We love Bali and do like staying in Nusa Duo and once you get to Bali the prices are better than Fiji if that makes a difference...have fun:D
