Hello,

I went to test my first strobe last Saturday. Here's a nudibranch picture from Olympus C-4040Z in PT-010 with Inon close-up lens and Ikelite DS-50. Any advice and comment are very welcome

Sorry guys...
I don't know how to insert my picture in the thread :(
The first pix was accidentally deleted.
So I attach it again.

In order to post a picture in this photo forum, the photo has to be on a server on the internet. Once you have the URL to that photo, go to the SB Code section above, just under the smilies, and click on the IMG button. enter the URL there and click OK.

I'll jump in with some constructive critism, since that's what you asked for.

Good pic... get CLOSER... and then get closer still. Your strobe might have been a little off... seems to be lighting the right side more than the left. A model light helps at night or in murky conditions... Ikelite makes a gizmo to attach a small dive light to the strobe, or you can rig one yourself. During the day you'll just have to experiment with strobe placement. Find something that won't move on you and take some shots with different strobe positioning... go to the extremes moving it so you get a better idea of how to aim it to create the lighting that you want. Sometimes on macro shots, I have the strobe pointing across the subject instead of directly lighting it... sometimes I'm too close to have the strobe pointing at my subject, and have the arms folded so the strobe is in on the side of the housing pointing across the lens. The 'film' and 'developing' are free with your camera... just get out and shoot a ton of pics.

Dear raxafarian,

Thank you so much for your suggestions :)
I found that this forum has been very useful indeed.

Dee,
I'm gonna ask you for more stupid question... How can I upload my picture on the internet server? Is there any website that I can store some of them? I have no idea about it since in Thai forums, to get my picture posted, all I have to do is just attach it.

There are quite a few sites that offer free hosting. I've used these at one point or another.

One problem with some free sites is you can't post a specific photo and have it show up on the board, but you can post a link to it and/or to the whole album. This is still better than the attachments because you aren't limited with size.

Dee,
I really appreciate your advice. It's great to have my first album on the internet :)

These pictures were taken at Pattaya with my friend's Epoque 150-DS before I got Ikelite.
