Hello AfterDark - Bring your group up to Maine this summer sometime for an overnighter and I'll do my best to show you guys a good time.

Sounds good OF! I'll have to remember to bring my core warmer that Maine water is never warm! Maybe by that time I'll be able to afford a dry suit! It was nice to meet you!

The end of August and early September we surface swim in it in swimsuits but you only need to dive a 3mm [5 if you're not used to it] if you don't go deep. Most of the shore diving and good stuff is less than 40' which is about where the thermo is. We were very impressed with all the skates we saw yesterday at Newport. I must have seen at least 20 [all 9" body/9"tail.] The water was nice. A couple degrees warmer than what we have. Viz was about what we average up here [15'.] Our second dive we did a drift dive down to the seawall at the end of the road. We saw a 5" crab, 6" tall red anemone, 12" horseshoe crab w/ a 10" tail, tons of 6" starfish and very little trash. The most depth we got was 53'. That's when the bottom started to drop off pretty fast. The current was picking up. We'll be down again this summer.........

I use my 7mm without the core warmer here in the summer. When I dive Cape Ann in the summer its either a dry suit or the core warmer. The thermocline is shallower than 40' here. Right now its around 25'-30'. I was very happy and proud to see how little debris there was in the water. The fishing line can't be helped but very little in the way of what I call intentional trash cans, bottles etc.... There are better places to dive in RI than where we were. Next time you come here let me know in advance I'll take you to some nice sites especially if you like night diving.

We're only another 45 min past the turnoff to Cape Ann from your direction. If you're up that close give a holler and some of us may come down to meet up with you.

Yes, we love night diving.

Last summer my club had it's annual summer outing at Fort Getty but it was at the end of August during some hurricane event and the conditions and viz were terrible. Maybe some of us can come down again this summer for some of your southern hospitatlity.

We'll stay in contact.
