Um ... how do you all know the OP is not a terrorist? :D

That's why I also won't volunteer anything about modifying swimming techniques to reduce the presence of phosphorescence in warm nocturnal seas in addition to using a rebreather. :eyebrow:

Wouldn't access to :biggun: be more of a cause for concern? :)

Depends upon your plot really.

I am no rebreather expert, but most closed circuit rebreathers (but not semi-closed) would be largely undetectable to the casual observer from the surface because they don't discharge bubbles like open circuit scuba. But a well defended (read: military) institution could pick up magnetic signatures or similar from anything except a specialised military model.

In terms of sneaking up on someone underwater, rebreathers also make characteristic noises, clicking of solenoids etc. - although they are quieter in absolute terms than open circuit scuba, they would certainly cause another diver to turn around and look if they heard it behind them.

If you just need names of some publicly available rebreather models, try the list of rebreather courses on this page: http://www.tdisdi.com/index.php?did=51&site=2

Hope that helps.

Come to think of it, how do I know that you're not a terrorist?;)

I live about 1/10th of a mile from where the terrorists who were planning to attack Ft. Dix, NJ were staying. They practiced with weapons at the range in the state game lands about 2 miles from my house in Gouldsboro. After that, the government bulldozed the range and rebuilt it in the Tobyhanna area about 3 miles closer to their intended target and near the Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Seems to me any terrorist who can manage rebreather diving will be able to out-think such logic.

My .300 Savage is the only rifle at the range most days that isn't an assault rifle. Everybody has modified assault weapons in Pennsyltucky. In fact, I think it is a requirement for residency. So, look for Muslim religious fundamentalists or home schooled kids from PA who are taking rebreather classes at the Scuba Connection in NJ and you'll find your Tangos.

The idiom. If Bonefrog was a sleeper, systematically brainwashed to hate everything that is pure and good and American and Christian, whose cover was an aspiring novelist, they would have also taught him to write English with a little panache. Yet he greets us with: I'm researching a novel that I am currently writing. Terrorist? I think not.

Rebreather

Thanks for the link. It looks like a good deal of information. As you commented, the research is unique and very interesting. Yesterday I checked into SCUBA classes here in Denver. If I have a good spring financially, I'm going to get my cert. The dive sites here in colorado leave much to be desired however. All of the dives are done in reservoirs because that's all we have here.
