Notification of refused Friend Requests?

This question has come up a few times in recent history...

If I refuse an incoming friend request, is that person notified of the refusal?

Not directly, but the person whose friendship is requested is shown in your friends list as "Friendship Requested".

If you deny the request, that status become permanent until the requester removes you from their Buddy List.
