Could be worse, the natives could mistake you for a person in need and start leaving you presents instead. :D

Enjoy the time, or lack of it.... ;)

Been going there for over 20 years & in all that time of shore diving, we only lost a knap sack which had some old towels in it. We plan on returning next month for 2 weeks. We always adhere to the same simple rules when at a dive site.

and those rules are....?
Often posted on your rental truck dashboard.

Leave nothing of value in the truck that you want to keep.
Leave the windows completely down and the doors unlocked.

You can leave rental tanks in the back, no one takes them as they can only be filled at the diveop they came from. Car keys, d/l and $20 in a Witz case around your neck. Once you go through BMP orientation and get your tag, you'll never need to show a c-card again - even at other diveops - so leave it in your room.

Most trucks are 4-doors, if there's two of you, the back seat is a good place to throw all your gear - wet or dry. Wet seats and wet money is a pretty common thing in Bonaire.

If you need anything else, you're most likely 10-15 mins. away from any resort along the west side of the island except if you go into Slagbaai park or too far north on the main road, after a certain point it becomes one way and you have to drive back around through Rincon - do it once anyway for a diffferent perspective on local Bonaire. Or if you're staying in Lagoen Hills, that's 10 mins further or so.

Pretty much everything else is along the west side just slightly north or south of "downtown" Kralendijk - the one place you don't want to be if there's a cruise ship in town.

I was disappointed too. I fully expected to be a victim when I went and escaped unharmed by following the simply rules above.

Never had an issue on Bonaire after many trips. Nothing stolen. Always followed the "rules". Lots of posts on the Bonaire Talk site about losing items from trucks but virtually always a result of leaving something of value in the truck - however minor that item is.

If we all did in the States as we do on Bonaire no one would have a vehicle left - nevermind stuff inside!

So, all in all, Bonaire is a great and safe place. Far better than any city in the US of A.
