The LDS has new-old-stock (NOS) BCDs on 50% off. Most are discontinued models from Mares, SeacSub, ScubaPro. For example they Have the Mares Ariel which I'm guessing is at least 1-2 years old. Would these NOS units still be ok? What should I be looking for? My wife's BCD got busted last weekend (inflater hose tore off from the jacket) and would like to buy a one. We don't dive as often as we did and don't want to spend too much. Thanks.

Nothing wrong at all with NOS or older used BCs for that matter. As long as a BC is cleaned and stored out of the sun it will last for many many years. I still have my early 80's BC that I bought used in the early 90's and dove for several years. I don't dive it anymore, I have ones I like better but it other than faded it is still in fine working order. 50% off a NOS BC....good deal as long as you find a BC you like.

Think about it this way: if you bought it two years ago you'd still own it and it would be perfectly fine. NOS will be better than that, since it won't have been used.

@herman, RJP, you guys are right. Thanks for the feedback. Just needed the nudge to decide. Will bring my wife for the fitting. I heard they also have the older Kaila which is still newer than the Ariel. Thanks again.
