This will be my first cruise dive experience. Not my first choice for vacation options but when my boss offered a free cruise for an industry event how could I say no. I'm interested in meeting anyone who might be on this cruise which will be hitting Cozumel, Belize, and Roatan. I've made arrangements to dive with Jeremy at Living Underwater in Coz but will be doing ship excursions in Belize and Roatan ( I was informed that was the only option). Any tips for making the cruiseship dive experience more enjoyable are appreciated. Also, anyone who wants to meet for margaritas- let me know.:D

Belize is difficult but not the only option. SEASPORTS belize is excellent from all the reports but take 4 or more divers to get it done, and they are at the pier where the tenders dock. Also West end divers Roatan is right near the docks, come highly reccomended...both are substantially cheaper than the ships charges...Also look into either Aqua del mar or Dive with Martin in Coz..2 tank dive for $60 Martin is at the International; pier and Aqua is at the Lancoste ....hope this helps

If you don't want to go, I'll take your place. (My wife has started packing in case you say yes.) (We haven't been on a cruise all year, though we did do 7 in the last 2 years.)

I book dives through the ship whenever possible. It avoids problems with the timing. In Beliize, the dive boat picked us up right at the ship at anchor. That way we did not need to tender in or out.

Don't bring a dive knife, you won't be able to get it through security when you return from your dive.

Remember all food is prepaid. Thus, if several things on the menu look good, order them all. On lobster night, order two tails and one prime rib right off the bat. If this is an freestyle dining cruise (I believe all NCL are), make your reservations right away. That avoids out of space situations later on the cruise. Also, aim for 8:00 dinner. It is late enough to get everything done and to shower and get ready, but gets you done in time to see the show which usually starts at 9:30 on NCL. The entertainment is outstanding.

Bring a water glass (plastic) and coffee cup with you. You will find that you eat breakfast and lunch at the buffet. I've found the cups are too small and that I need to take 6 cups of water/ice tea just so I don't need to refill during my meal. Same for coffee.

You may want to bring a piece of string and a small nail with you. The ship uses shipboard credit cards for everything that requires money (alcohol and gifts). These also open your cabin door and are your boarding passes/id. My family likes to poke a hole in the card with the nail and then hang it like a necklace with the string.

I like to put a piece of duct tape on my cabin door or on the wall nearby to make finding my cabin easier.

Use the shower by the pool to wash your scuba gear. Its easier than trying to do it in your cabin and is much less messy.

You will have a great time unless you want me to go in your place.

(My wife has just finished packing in case you do.)

I was on the Sun in October...it is FREE style what that means is you can eat whenever and where ever you want...3 upcharg rest.($20-25 head)...but the 4 seasons and the other no upcharge restaurants are VERY good for all your meals...Don't do what we did and start out at the Buffet/snack shops on the Fantail...they get old and when you go to the other estaurants you''ll ask yourself, why you did not go there earlier...For a quick snack, they are ok, but on a regular basis I prefer the sitdown rest. with REAL waiters, real table cloths etc....

I went on the Sun over Thanksgiving (trip report: http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread.php?t=120225 ) I used Scuba with Alison in Cozumel, Sea Sports Belize, and Subway in Roatan. They were all great and much cheaper than the cruise ship excursions, there were no problems with time all our diving was done well before the ship set sail. Make sure you take a power strip there is only one power outlet in the room.

Bruce - What a generous offer but I'll have to pass. :-> Thanks for the great tips- you are obviously a seasoned pro.

Thanks everyone for your helpful ideas.
