If anyone is thinking of coming to dive, snorkel or swim in any of the springs along the Suwannee River in at least the next month or so you may want to re-evaluate your agenda. The river is running very high right now and has been since mid-winter in several places due to much above normal amounts of rain that North Florida & South Georgia have received in the past several months. The last time Troy Springs was open to diving was the weekend of February 9, 2013 and the river gauge on the Suwannee at Troy Springs on that Saturday was 10.16 feet. To give you an idea of what this reading looks like in person, the river level shown in the first picture (taken 03/04/12) was slightly below that height.

However, since that weekend, the Suwannee has risen and stayed way above that mark and the park has been closed to diving/swimming. This past Sunday (07/14/15) I had the chance to swing by Troy Springs on my way home from a trip to the panhandle and take a few photos of the current conditions there. The river gauge on Sunday was at 23.75 feet. If you're familiar with Troy Springs but have never seen the river in near flood before it's a pretty awesome sight to see.

If you're interested in following what the river gauge readings are along the Suwannee River you can do so at the following web address from the Suwannee River Water Management District:

For information on specific alerts for Florida's State Parks (ie: partial or total closures, activity restrictions, etc.) you can check out the following address:

Hope this helps out anyone that was making plans to travel here in the near future.
