NorCal-dive boat operators?

Planning a vacation to Point Arena, Cal area in July. Can anyone offer assistance in locating reputable dive boat operators, a dive guide, and helpful hints for diving in the area?

Don't think you're going to find an operator in that area. If it's going to be rough in Northern Ca, it'll be rough at Point Arena. Fort Bragg might be a possibility but check with the LDS there.

Hi and welcome to scubaboard,

I don't know of any actual dive boat operators like you would see in other destinations, but I do know of 2 places to check:

Bodega Bay Pro dive is a small dive shop in Bodega Bay which specializes in spearfishing and freediving, but they do rent tanks and such, so they would be one place to check with for info on north coast diving.

The other place is the "Scuba Cowboys"... I don't know anything about them but I have dived with a guy who is a close friend of one of them and says they are great, I have no personal experience with them. Here is their link:

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there are no dive boats along the Sonoma and Mendocino coast. Mostly the diving around here is done without proffessional guides by locals or people already familiar with the area. However, I'm pretty sure you could hire a divemaster out of one of the dive shops to go with you. I would second ProDive out of Bodega Bay as a good contact. Scuba Cowboys would have been a great choice, but Dale moved down South.

As far as dive tips, I would highly recommend A Diver's Guide to Northern California by Bruce Watkins

Renpirate's right, there are no commercial dive boats anywhere in the area.
But there's my boat, and the best part, it's free!
Let me know when you'll be up here and I'll see if I can get away for a day.
I know all the best spots.
You can ride along with me and my buddies for a day.
