I printed the thread and highlighted the names suggested and the comments that went with them and the list below shows how they stacked up in popularity. Incidentally, watersport.org will not even be considered for a name.. if someone goes to .com they'll be at a completely different site than expected!!!

FWSC – Florida Water-Sport Safety Council
FDISG – Florida Divers Safety Interest Group
DEB – Divers educating Boaters
Florida Underwater Citizens for Keeping boats Out And Taking Each Resource Seriously
DAUB – Divers Against Unsafe Boaters
DASB – Divers Association for Safe Boating
Divers Offering Recreational Knowledge
ABLE – Association for Boater Licensing and Education
FWSA – Florida Watercraft Safety Association
DBAC – Diver & Boater Awareness Council

Please share the list around and get some reactions. :)

Oh boy.

I still like FWSC. fwsc.net is available, and fwsc.com is not, umm, so "distasteful" :D

Jeff - This name is getting very positive reaction from some legal and accounting types that I know. I've also found a Federal grant that would cover this.

I like this one as well. Doesn't call the group out as divers "trying to take over control of the water".

I really like the ones you didn't show the acronym for as well. Are you sure we can't use the Keeping Boaters Out one? :eyebrow:

NOw I just have to remember this thread in case the admin asks about inappropriate website visits. At least I am well known as a diver/watersports enthusiast (ie watersports.ORG type watersports!)

We do have "WarmWaterWimps.com" available... if you want the board to sponsor this site, please say so. I would gladly add any domain and host it for free as well.

I saw on the TV the other day that the save the manatee group here in florida was also trying to get boaters to be licensed. Maybe we could partner up with them some how.

Totally got them on the hit-list now Wendy. I have a short list of groups that do education on boating but are either on a specific focus or known about but are not very vocal (such as coast guard aux or power squadron). I'll post the 1 and 3 year plan soon as well as any other documentation that is relevant for that will give life and body to this entity. Suggestions for groups to contact are very appreciated.

I can't thank everyone enough for the support, suggestions, and willingness to help. For the immediate game plan, I'm going to pilot it here in my county with the assistance of Keep Lee County Beautiful (http://www.klcb.org/), then tri-coastal counties (Charlotte, Lee, Collier) to get the bugs worked out then we'll go state wide!
