Just get your own 02 bottle to dose your tanks. Then take them to your LDS to get filled with air. They'll never know that they're mixing EAN for you.

Again, very dangerous! You are introducing pure O2 into a high pressure environment that has not been cleaned of hydrocarbons. So you can have an explosion when you are adding O2 at home, and you are putting the poor bastard at the shop at risk when he unknowingly slams non-O2 clean air on top of what he thinks is air. Would you let someone you love fill that tank? No? Then don't do it.

Be responsible. If you want to enjoy the benefits of nitrox, then play by the rules. If you do not want to O2 clean your tanks, then find someone who banks nitrox. If not, O2 clean your tanks and make sure you get them filled w/ O2-clean air and nitrox. Getting a few more minutes of bottom time is no justification for putting someone else's life at risk. If you want to blow yourself up be my guest but don't hold other people responsible for your wanton disregard for basic safety.

The current honor system is rather dumb, but so far it seems to have worked. I can't recall any reports of O2 fires occurring at So Cal fill stations. This is probably because the risk of any single fill igniting (at least at 40% and lower blends) is very small. The problem is all major catastrophes have a low probability of occurrence and this leads to complacency. That is why we repair levies after they break.

The change of an explosion has nothing to do w/ the desired blend. It can be 32%, 40% or 100%. In all cases with PP filling, you are introducing pure O2 into the cylinder. If it isn't clean, it can flash and things can go bang. The fact that anyone would encourage falsifying VIP stickers, "sneaking" O2 into a cylinder, or any other behavior that would put a fill operator at risk of injury or death is inexcusable. Nnot to mention everyone else around the fill station (customers, YOU, your dive buddies). Yes, that person is filling high pressure gases and ***** can happen, but there needs to be an assumption of basic human decency when filling tanks unless we want to start paying for O2 cleaning for every nitrox fill. If this is that difficult to do then dive air or blend your own.

the next notice on the dive shop wall:

"from this day on, all 'nitrox' divers getting fills must hold their own tank between their legs during fills, Thanks, your LDS"
