We went to Bermuda for 4 days (Sept 26- 29). There were no cruise ships that weekend so it was awesome - most beaches on the whole island were for just 2 of us.
we stayed at Greene's guesthouse. It was very nice. South shore area was stormy the first several days, so we mostly explored them above the water. They are indeed beautiful with dramatic rock formations. As far as snorkeling goes - we went to North shore beaches. Tobacco bay was wonderful - calm water, lots of fishes, beautiful rocks. Gibbins island (close to Flatts village) was probably the best as far as snorkeling and beauty goes.
On the last day, South shore was relatively quiet. We headed straight to Church bay and we were not disappointed a bit - it was great. Although we saw more diversity around Gibbins island, Church bay was impressive.
The underwater flora of Bermuda reminded me a bit of New England, it's rather a mix of tropical with more northern landscapes. I thought it was interesting.
We did not go to any diving trips this time. Maybe next time.
As far as ground explorations - we explored the whole island on a scooter. We were told that it was off-season and we did not see many tourists. I've never ridden a scooter before and was a bit scared at first (especially hearing that most accidents happen with tourists on scooters) and not too confident the first few hours (mostly with turning at very slow speed) but very quickly got a handle on a scooter. In any case, Navy dockyard was a big disappointment (and waste of time in our opinion) - very tourist oriented place lacking any charm. Fortunately, it was not crowded.
St. George and Flatts Village on the other hand were very picturesque and lovely.
We visited Zoo/Aquarium. Fish collection was very small as well as animal collection but the visit was worth for its super rare 5 lion tamarin monkeys, galapagos turtles and some australia/asia animals.
We also went to see caves and they were superb. both caves are totally worth it.
Overall, great vacation place with beautiful beaches, nice snorkeling, very polite and incredibly friendly people. If you're on a budget, you can find suitable places, so it's possible to go there and don't spend lots of cash.
