Thanks Tim, I passed one of your fliers to the owner of the local dive shop we traveled there with. Although the Twin 50 battery is large, I love the extended burn times with the 20 watt bulbs installed. I think I can live with the size of the batteries for now.

I have about 5-1/2 hours of digital video to download, edit and burn to a disk. I'll try to get some clips up real soon showing the comparison of the bulbs, colors, wattages, etc. as well as some of the incredibly cool marine life we saw while we were there.

It's a highly debatable topic and what it comes down to is a matter of personal preference. It's hard to say whether one technology is better than another without knowing how it will be used. I'm a car enthusiast myself and I always compared it with naturally aspirated engines vs forced induction engines

Everyone knows naturally aspirated engines rule and forced induction sucks.

Just kidding.

Everyone has an opinion. Even if everyone has the same opinion of what is the best, does everyone need the best ? Can everyone afford the best ? Is the less expensive option acceptable ?

My halogen lights are definitely not the best, but they were much less expensive than HID and flourescent lights. I like to post clips and let people decide for themselves. If it looks horrible to you, then maybe HID and flourescent lights are worth the additional cost. If you are like me, you'll find halogen works just fine and is much more affordable.

I think a lot of people claim that HIDs are better becuase of the color etc. The biggest advantage of HIDs is the efficiency -> burn time. All the other things like color temperature etc can change across different bulb manufacturers. Also, something that's really important too is the beam angle. There is no "perfect" video light for everyone because people dive and shoot differently, you just have to do the research and find out what's best for you.
