No STA single backplate

This is my concept design for a no STA single tank rig. It can still facilitate twins. Fits an OMS backpad and most standard wings. I am thinking this would be a great travel rec BP. laser cut 304L stainless with Delrin inserts for strap wear reduction. What do you think?

One thing I just noticed now, is the crotchstrap slot a 1" or 2" opening? You might want to add a 2" or both.

I dont see how that will accomodate doubles. The raised area in the centre looks like it would interfere with the tanks...

If properly finished with stones, delrin inserts aren't needed.

The concept of a quick attachment/detachment intrigues me. I can see it being a very simple design and very, very functional and strong.

Nice CAD -- now here are some things you might want to take into consideration.

1. Molded inserts are a trade design of Deep Sea Supply
2. Hole position and size that you have here probably infringes on OMS
3. Shape to be examined as well.

If you are gonna make one or two for yourself -- knock yourself out. If you plan on making them for sale and distribution plan on having a fairly large war chest. The market place is tight AND you will be hard pressed to make enough to cover your legal costs. I'm not saying it will happen. I'm just suggesting that before you knock off a design or manufacturing process that you make sure you CAN do it and have the cash to defend it.

I've been in this business long enough to let you know that OMS will have you spending more legal money than you can shake a stick at.

I dont see how that will accomodate doubles. The raised area in the centre looks like it would interfere with the tanks...

Gary has sent me drawings of his renditions, and according to his measurements, even with the W channel, standard spaced 8" doubles will fit just fine.
