Wouldn't that be a shame. Everybody is nagging about dolphins getting stuck in the net when they catch tuna but the big problem is that the tunas are over fished. People look for "Dolphin Safe Tuna" on the shelfs in the store but while there are plenty of dolphins around and the tunas are getting extinkt.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like that the dolphins die in the nets, I just care more about the tunas. Personally I don't eat tuna for this particular reason, I would buy "Tuna Safe Dolphin" if I found it though.

Law5Guy:: Funny you would bring that up but I have same friends who have sworn over the years that the world was going to end on about a dozen different dates. On these dates they would gather with the other members of their congregation in the basement (Why the basement I don't know.) of their church all night and wait for the "Ascension" to take place. Of course it never has happened so I'd sort of gently slip in a question to them afterwords as to why they are still around. Usually got a lot of mumbo-jumbo which their leader gave them and I couldn't understand. Got a specific date on the new end of the world so I can tell them so that they can be ready?

I've often wondered what the situation with tunas actually is. I certainly know the charter boats out of my home port catch a lot fewer fish a lot farther out than in the past. I did a research paper on HMS quota systems in the eastern pacific for an economics class last year. All the 2007-8 data I reviewed from NMFS showed "sustainable levels" (whatever that means) of fishing on all species of tuna except pacific bigeye (which is very desirable as sashimi) which were on the first peg down from sustainable. If i could figure out how to post images in reply i'd put graphs so you can see for yourself.

Wouldn't mind finding out how canned dolphin tasted just on general principles though. Or maybe as tartare with a marine iguana egg yolk....depends if its a red meat i guess. Would you serve it with a cabernet or a malbec?

Dolphin taste like chicken.

Off topic, but I thought I'd provide some insight on this...
Garrobo, I'd venture the members of the congregations with which you've had this experience might be a bit young in their training. Scripture is pretty specific on this, most notably in 1st Thessalonians, verse 5:1-2 "Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night." In other words, according to the basic teachings of Scripture, NO ONE will know the date or time for the events described as the beginning of the "end of times". Anyone who predicts it based upon Christian prophesy misunderstands this fundamental teaching. Next time they retreat to the basement (I don't understand that, either...) you might suggest they take a look at this passage.

Just thought I'd toss that in...and I apologize if this seems like a hijack of the thread. It was not my intention.

Now, back to the prospects of having a tuna salad after 2012!

Hey Guba, it's the Mayan calendar that ends in 2012, not the christian. And according to Mayan mythology its not the end of the world but a new beginning of humanity, or new understanding of life.
