Diving without a cutting knife is just plain stupid. If the rules prohibit carrying a knife, then they need to be disregarded.
1. Have you ever dived in cozumel?
2. Have you considered the fact that theres other cutting tool than knives?

Feel free to take that up with your DM on Cozumel, but remember that he/she has the power to keep you out of the water within the marine park.

Around here weve been kicking ass with weapons since before the US even existed, but we still dont shoot eachother at a rate that even begin to compare to the US despite the fact that theres plenty of guns to go around..

What is your rate of firearm assault per capita and what is ours?

There are very low income people here who don't have $200, much less the money to travel to a gun show. They drink Lysol to get high. I don't believe that tough gun legislation eliminates guns. However you have to wonder why fewer Canadians shoot each other relative to Americans. I have to think it has something to do with our gun legislation. Or, as someone else has suggested, maybe we prefer hockey sticks (or a good check into the boards).
I was having dinner at a Mensa Canada gathering once and someone asked that. I gave him my theory. 30 minutes later, he was giving the after dinner speach and used my material - without credit.

Carry shears and a baseball bat.

...I'm gonna agree with the position that at least a basic/small dive knife is MANDATORY scuba safety gear.......and until someone installs airport style walk-through UW metal scanners/detectors in all the swim-throughs in Cozumel (or anywhere else, for that matter) I'm gonna ALWAYS have a small knife on me......while YMMV, I've NEVER been confronted by a DM anywhere, including Coz, about my having a knife.....if it's subtle/concealed, and it stays stowed, it appears the DM's have a common-sense 'don't-ask, don't-tell' policy....live and let live, thank goodness!

We have less than 1 registered firearm per person, however we have on average atleast 1 firearm per family.

The rate of murders per registered firearm in Norway was 1:95 000 in 2006.
The rate of murders per registered firearm in the US was 1:18 200 in 2001.

Including the ammount of (expected) unregistered firearms the numers would be 1:150 000 in Norway and 1:27 300 in the US for the same years.

Ive not taken the time to try to dig up the statistics for other years but Im sure they are out there somewhere..

Per registered firearm? Like most statistics, that stat is designed to prove the predetermined point of whoever invents it. In other words, it is blatantly misleading.

Many american firearms are not registered because we used to enjoy a lot of freedom in this country. We are often not required to register, so your stats are dangerously misleading. For reference...there are 12 firearms in my home. Many are used for one form of hunting or another, though several are of the variety that make gun control lobbyist cry themselves to sleep at night. Several have passed through the hands of generations of my family and none of them are registered.

I am not arguing against the fact that America can be a violent country though. That is certainly true. We are not a passive people.....thank god.

You want firearm murders per citizen as well? Youll be sorry for asking if you do..

Norway 2006 1:450-500 000
USA 2001: 1:27 300
Does that make you feel any better?

Being passive and killing other citizens is two quite different things btw..

Brother if you are looking for an apology from the USA, you are quite simply barking up the wrong tree, in the wrong forum...which is based in the wrong country. For reference, we have two wars going on at the same time...and the evening news never mentions either of them. We are not exactly a country filled with pacifists...which is probably why we are a superpower.

As to your stats. Why are yours from 2006 and ours from 2001....the year of 9-11? It was a hard year for our country, as you might imagine. Got anything newer than 8 years old? To save time though, I will stipulate that Norway is a far more passive place to live than the USA....and again, we don't apologize for it.

Im not looking for an apology, but youre the one that asked for numbers. Its not my problem that americans shoot eachother. No, I havent been assed googling some more recent statistics (nor older). Im sure I could but Im not gonna bother..

Oh yeah, and if you think its passive to send troops to places like Afghanistan and Tsjad, I guess youre right..
