I know dive gloves are discouraged, to prevent divers touching stuff, but twice now while diving I have been stung by free floating hydroid fans, ouchie! Would gloves be allowed to prevent this?

I know several women that get cold very easily that wear gloves every time they dive in Coz with no problems.

I would not listen to anyone "discouraging" gloves. I wear them all the time for that very purpose even in warm water.

I don't think any responsible dive op is going to take your dive gloves off. We do know that many divers get cold hands and we consider that. But if they finding you touching or beating on the reef, you should be thrown off the boat.

OP wasn't asking about being cold. Potential hydroid stings. What is your position on that?

I'm allergic to the hydoids... I use this:
Benadryl Itch Relief Stick
Also available at Walgreens, Wal-mart, CVS...

There is also 2.5% hydrocortizone cream available in Mexico (only 1.0% in USA). I use the cream when I get home if they are still itchy.

I say go ahead and wear the gloves. If the owner of one of the more respected dive shops on the island puts no stock in the marine park rules, I see no reason why any of us should.

How do you get that he puts no stock in dive park rules here? It appears he is just being reasonable.... keeping the spirit of the rule intact...
