Thanks for the info, so we are planning a trip on Saturday, maybe a beach dive, jetty or something around noon, the tide will be coming in, then air refill and try the Manasquan RR Bridge at high slack around 3:45PM. Is this sensible? Anyone interested in showing us the "ropes"?

Let us know how it goes - another time this year yes - trying to get Softball and kids stuff done and packed for vacation next week. If you are up for another weekend - needs to be at least 2 weekends let me know...

We dove Shark River first, L street beach. Got in the water about noon with a mild incoming current. We were directed west, under the walkways, then out into the open water. Swam upstream from there back to the beach. Water temp was 67, and 10-12 ft vis. Lots of crabs, few fluke, one legal size, and that was about it. Overall, it was a nice easy dive, 45 min.

Headed to Atlantic Spear & Scuba for refills, then back to the bridge. High tide was listed at 3:55, but at 4:30 there was still a strong current coming in. We entered anyway and ride the current under the bridge. On the other side, all was calm. Vis was only 6-8 ft here. Again, lots of crabs, some small fish around the rocks, urchins, sponge, starfish, and a bottom covered in mussels. On our way back under the bridge, there was little to no current and we found a puffer hanging out in the shadows. Back on the east side, saw some small jellies, tiny shrimp, and baby fluke (2-3"). Exited about 5 pm as the tide just started moving out.

Has anyone been out to the Adonis and Rusland twin wrecks? I haven't been there in almost 10 years and don't know if there is anything left after all the big storms we had since then. Last time I went the catholic retreat there had gotten a new priest in charge and he was very nice about letting us use the property to get to the site. The prior person had banned any use because people had abused the privilege and left a bad impression.

iPhone. iTypo. iApologize.

L Street beach is part of the back bay area, and is not considered part of the inlet. The restrictions on daytime diving during the May-October period apply to the inlet, not to the back bay. There is a lot of boat traffic in the back bay and lots of fishermen, so great care must be taken, and all other regulations, like dive flag requirements, apply, but a summons should not be an issue for diving during the day at L Street

Thanks for looking out for us. We did verify the restrictions. Here is a quick video.

Wow! Great video. The fish shown in the last 10 seconds is a Spiny Boxfish (Chilomycterus schoepfi), a semi-tropical species that must have been blown in by recent north winds that push Gulf Stream waters and their inhabitants inshore. 67F is fairly warm for late June. It's nice to see the mussel beds rebounding. Sandy had practically wiped them out.
