nj dive sites

I' m going to be in South Jersey, around the end of august, beginning of september. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for good dive sites in the area(shallower wrecks, good life, good viz) Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

Not from Jersey but have dove down there. What do you consider
shallow. If you want good viz you'll have to dive somewhere else. 30ft is good viz down there. There's tons of life but its all green and brown fish and brown, white anemones (spelling?). There's lots of wrecks. http://www.njscuba.com/shipwrecks/index.html

ScubaNarc forgot to mention all the lobster, scallops and black fish. All very good eating!

The wreck site link is a great place to check out but don't be surprised to not be able to pick out a particular wreck you want to see. Most of the boat captains around here tell you where you are going only after you have anchored.

This can make for a problem if you are diving Nitrox. That has made for a standard here in NJ of 30% O2 locally refered to as "Jersey Mix". That way no matter where you end up on a boat dive you will be OK for FO2, as no boat captain will take you out for a dive deeper than 130 ft. unless he knows you or you have rented the whole boat and are telling him where you want to go.

BTW, I keep waiting for a dive that actually has 30' vis. I hear about them but ain't actually seen one yet. Other than that we really do have GREAT wreck dives here. Feel free to PM for more info. We welcome all diver's here!

PS: Where the heck do you get certified in AZ? I've been there and there aren't too many places that actually have water deep enough to get your knees wet. Just curious.

Actually did my o/w dives on catalina island in Caalifornia. But we do have lakes here where you can get deeper than 130. The vis in the lakes is usually about 4' so 30' would be pretty welcome. I'm actually from NJ so I know a bit about the water there, but wasn't a diver when I lived there.
