The card says you're certified for 32%. I've yet to meet a shop that hasn't given me a fill. It's my wife's only nitrox card and likewise, she hasn't had an issue either. I really can't see why you'd want to spend another $100-200 to take a class that will likely cover nitrox in less detail than you'll get anyways in Fundies. Wife has also not bothered taking AOW and that's yet to keep her off any boats doing 100' dives.

why do aow?

To avoid idiotic situations when a diver with 10 dive is allowed on the boat just because SHe has an AOW and another dive is not alowed because he has only OW card and his 1000 dives do not count.

The topics has been discussed here gazilliomn times...

Likewise Fundies is my only Nitrox card and I've not had any problems. Save the cash unless you need Nitrox before you can take Fundies, or if you really really need to know how to calculate best mix (which Fundies will make a strong argument against doing) and can't learn the equation on your own ;-)

I wish i could take it sooner but late july august is earliest available in my area.. oh well... i wanna get some more experience in before taking it anyways... preciate the help :)

new divers should probably take Rescue, Nitrox, Nav, and Night specialties from PADI/NAUI before or in addition to taking fundies. take CPR and the DAN DEMP courses as well (and DAN BLSpro for bonus points).

I would take PADI nitrox, for the same reason as doing PADI AOW. Some shops just have no clue that GUE-F teaches nitrox and there is always a chance that they will refuse to fill your tanks.

I would recommend the TDI Nitrox class if you can find one as a better prep for more advanced classes.

just a quick off topic.... but whats the difference in training between gue's rec1 vs fundies... the only reason i ask is my girlfriend is not even ow yet and thought about just taking rec1 together considering if i read right.. it takes the place of fundies for tec/cave prereqs

I'd speak with your potential instructor, but I suspect that'd be fine. However, it will cost a bit more, as Rec1's a longer class.

That said, if she can afford to take Rec1, that'd be amazing. She's start out where people are still hoping to get to after quite a few dives.
