Still waiting for my D90 housing to get here so I packed the D90 into my old D80 housing with a Tokina 10-17mm lens and went diving anyway. Wow, the D90 is a HUGE improvement over the D80 in my opinion. The focus, light control and just about everything else is much much better. The pics were all taken from between 130 and 145 feet on the USS Emmons which was eventually destroyed by kamikaze attack in the Battle of Okinawa.

Very nice! Thanks for sharing.

Very nice

I love the first one. It really conveys a mood.

The old housing is an Ikelite D80 housing. The D90 pretty much fit with no problem. I was able to access all the manual controls so taking pics was absolutely no problem. I did not try the LiveView option although I wished I had tried it out.

Interesting. I asked Ikelite if they would just sell me the rear door off the D90 housing to fit my D80 housing. They said no. Something about cost to manufacture, quality control and warranties. In other words they want you to buy a whole new housing.

How did the exposure, AF, Release mode and metering buttons on the top of the camera line up with the D80 housing?

Do you think all we needed was to buy the rear door off the D90 housing and use the housing body from the D80?

Regards Mark

All of the controls on top of the D80 housing worked well. Also, all of the controls along the left side of the rear monitor lined up too. However, the controls along the left side of the monitor did not line up except for the LiveView button. When shooting manual though none of these really matter anyway. All I was doing at that depth was small adjustments to the Fstop. I had set the shutter to 1/250 at the surface so minimize what I had to do at the ship itself. In my opinion, if your going to shoot manual photos only then the old D80 housing works well enough that that new housing isnt strictly necessary.

Impressive pictures, they convey the drama this ship and it's occupants lived during it's last hour.
You have an eye for catching this.

Very crisp photography.

Congrats
