My wife and I are visiting the Fort Lauderdale area Labor Day weekend to do several boat dives. We were told that night diving is not very popular in this area and that most often the trips get canceled.

Does anyone have any insight into why night diving is so unpopular? Are Southern Florida night dives simple that bad?

It's just hard to get enough people on a boat to do a trip.

Most ops do a 1 tank night dive trip, and people don't see the value.

I would suggest trying www.southfloridadiving.com and find out how many people they'll want for a night dive, and then post a trip and see if you can rally enough people ;)

On the other hand, night beach dives are very popular here...look at some of the ones we have posted under Trips and Local Marketplace!

What specific nights are you interested in doing a night beach dive?

Hi Guys,
I have noticed that some other folks have posted that night diving has been at times less than popular due to the lack of intrest because most OPS only run one tank. I would agree with this for a large part. I would like to point out however that there are several operators that do offer 2-tank dives. Our shop is affilated with one such outfit that I could not reccomend more, Underwater Explorers in Boynton Beach. The owner is my best friend and one of the best divemasters you will ever have the pleasure to dive with. I would be glad to assist you in booking a trip aboard his boat, or any others that I know in our area that you would have fun diving with. I hope this helps a little in your search, and please do not hesistate to pm me for any assistance I might be.

Here's his website. I haven't dived with him yet...I'm diving with him a week from Saturday...but I've heard nothing but good about the operation!!!

Some operator's have a regular night dive that runs on the same night of the week every week and have no problem getting enough divers for their trips. RJ Diving Ventures runs a trip every Wednesday night and usually has 16 to 24 divers onboard.

Conversely, Parrot Island used to have night dives on their schedule a few nights a week and stopped putting them on their calendar due to lack of interest.

I'd also guess if you wanted to go, the six-pack boats could do the trip if you filled enough spots (at least four probably).
