Totally few night dives here. I think I have at LEAST 10x as many low vis dives as I have night dives. In fact, I believe that would be my 3rd night dive.

I'd guess you have at least 30 low viz dives.......of course it also depends on how you define low viz. 10 feet or less? 3 feet or less? So what about Wednesday night in Marvel's side yard?

TS&M:
Even in really bad viz, you still have the light to tell you which way is up, but you don't have that at night.

Have I got some low viz dives for you - black water. Night dives with no moon and no lights are brighter.

night dives can ones most memorable dives. especially done on a full moon with clear skies ,one does not need to use the torch. We often get loads of phospher in our waters so with out the torch on, one suit tends to glow in the dark.
advice to those who have not done one yet go dark and exsperience it.
One of the coolest experiences I have ever had diving happened at the end of a night dive. We came up into the shallows, in the eel grass, and turned off our lights ... and watched the dogfish leaving phosphorescent trails in their wake as they hunted. You could actually make out the outline of the fish as it sped through the water!

Another thing I love to do in the tropics is to get in the water before dawn and watch the "shift" change as daylight arrives. It's like tag-team rasslin' ... the night critters tag out and the day critters tag in ... :D

You should really quit diving those sewer pipes, Walter ... :eyebrow:

Probably 1/3 of my dives are night dives. My weekends are usually camping at a quarry for a weekned and doing either two or three dives a day and I do a night dive every night without exception I love them. The thing that gets me is that the colors are so much truer. (Now most the guys I dive with also cave dive and take their HID lights on these night dives so I got the sun down there), but when you think about the way everything at depth has the greenish blue tint b/c that spectrum of light penetrates the water the best and at night you get the full spectrum of colors it's just great, and you can get more relaxed b/c you're only lokoing at what your light is focused on. I simply think night dives are the best way to dive.

I'm one of the few that have an almost even number of night/day dives.

I personally like diving at night for a few reasons. Here's my list.

- My buddies and I can train for our deep dives without having to go deep. (Below 120fsw, it may as well BE night here)
- You can dive the same place 100 times and the first time you hit it at night, it's brand new.
- Less boat traffic
- It's when the predators come out (good photo ops!)
- Since my wife's asleep anyway, she doesn't notice me gone as much.

(that last one is a biggie)

Mmmmm

Night drift dive in warm clear water, turn off your lights (hell, the moon's out, you hardly need 'em) wait for your eyes to adjust, which takes about a minute.

Yes! Diving a reef by moonlight is totally cool! Reminds me of that weird Photoshop filter where everything turns black and you can just see white outlines of stuff.

I'm amazed at both of you. Only 3.6% of my dives have been at night. Weather permitting, I should add 2 more by the end of the week.
