Marc cruised by on time so we talked it over and decided to take a chance.
The surf was up but no problem for us "macho" highly competent shore divers, except that a wave smacked water into my ear (waaa.... lol).
The surge was gentle but at times 3 feet or so east/west, so spotting anything was difficult. There was little or no current.
We didn't see many of the usual creatures. Visibility was limited but we did run into a coronet fish, a cow, and various "grazers" settled in for the night. It's interesting to see how they wedge themselves in so they aren't bumped about all night. We didn't even wake most of them up.
The best sighting IMO were Marc's "baby" squid. They had to be no more than 2" (maybe less) and you could see right through their slightly illuminescent bodies. Our lights blinded them and at times Their inkers would just "go off." They zipped a few feet and then hung again peacefully. Maybe they were just having bad dreams and squid ink in their sleep.
Marc thinks he saw a HUGE lobster, but if if news got out about that the reef would be overrun by hunters tonight, so he didn't. I think he was narc'd.
No, it wasn't the best dive and we cut it short after an hour or so, but it was still nice to wet the gills.
No shore diving tonight or probably through the weekend because the water had that "sandy" color to it this morning - so visibility must be pretty bad. I know that any big bugs that might have mistakenly found their way to our reef are on their way to Bimini by now anyway.
