I was wondering if anyone has done a night dive at eden rock/devils grotto in grand cayman. If so how was it?We are going there this May and want to do a night dive. Thanks

I dove Eden and many others during the day, and did many night dives just off the shore of Sunset House without any disappointment. We saw tons of nightlife (every night)...shrimp, HUGE lobster (10-12 lbs, easy!!), octopus each night, 5 foot tarpon that were following us and attacking fish off of our lights (they were swimming along side of us just two feet away)....I could have stayed there all night. Best of all, it was free...no charge for shore diving. Our last night at Sunset they chartered a night dive to a place we thought would be fantastic diving (because it was teeming with life during the day), but we couldn't go since we were flying the next morning....come to find out they didn't see anything there....go figure.

Eden has a decent shore dive but it is way too close to where the cruise ships moor and the sea life there reflects the abundance of tourists. Tarpon in that area are many as they follow a path of feeding, several restaurants feed them starting with Rackams and moving down to The Wharf so the tarpon make a 'dinner run' every evening.

Sunset does have a decent sized resident octopus living somewhere between the mermaid and their water entryway along the shore bank, although we didn't see it. As far as I know shore diving is not free at Eden, they charge .25 per pound for weights and about $6-$8 USD for a tank and were chasing folks off their pier that didn't rent from them.

If you really want something memorable for a night dive, see Jason at Ambassador Divers (ambassadordivers.com) and have him take you out to Lemon Reef or a similar location. It's not such a sheer wall dive there and it makes it easier to see marine life below you. Jason has a 42' dive boat and never books more than 8 divers at a time. He leaves out of the Yacht Club on the other side of 7 Mile Beach.

I suggest the Divetech shop at Turtle Reef for a night shore dive (or day shore dive for that matter.) You do have to arrange ahead for tanks at night, though I suppose at night you could just bring your own, I'm not sure if they care or not when they're closed.

I did a night dive at eden rock/devils grotto..this summer. the hurricane messed it up I think...alot of the coral was dead..I recommend going to the turtle farm instead..that is always a good night dive.
