There is to be a new tourist attraction in Cozumel: a water park that is the first of its kind outside the United States. The name is the Nickelodeon Water Park and it will be located on the south coast. Construction is scheduled to begin this month, and the first phase will employ 4,500 Cozumeleños and building will begin with the beach club. The park will feature rides and attractions such as the “boomerang,” “Kamikaze,” “whirlpool,” various slides, a wave pool, a slow-moving river, a pool and other innovative surprises. Within the park fast-food restaurants, gourmet restaurants, games of skill and electronic games will be installed. There will be large green areas, and the park will have a capacity to serve 8,000 visitors daily. The second phase will include a hotel and condominiums and shopping areas.

Good boost for the economy and added long-term jobs. Very nice.

If done responsibly, this could be a very good thing.

Stable jobs for a large number of people would be great, and it won't hurt the island to diversify attractions without wrecking what's already there.

The biggest concern I'd have would be about the amount of fresh water required.

Does it have to be fresh water?
