3 dolphins stuck in Phuket mangrove saved

(BangkokPost.com) – Three dolphins were found stuck in mangrove in Phuket province on Saturday morning.

The dolphins, two female and one male, were more than 20 years ago, and each weighed from 100 to 200 kilogrammes, according to marine expert who rushed to the scene in Muang district.

They were found by fishermen early Saturday. The fishermen and local villagers helped make big holes for them and keep their heads and skins wet. They also informed authorities, who came to give basic treatment for the dolphins while waiting for the tide to wash them back to sea.

According to veterinarian Kongkiat Kiatwattanawong, the dolphins were of rare breed and the remain of this breed was reportedly found 15 years ago in Satun province.

It was still unknown why they were found in the mangrove.
