Me and a small crew dove the crane that toppled into the Niantic Bay during a storm in the 70's. The dive wasn't spectacular but provided a quick boat dive for the foggy conditions. It was fun to explore for a half hour or so.

Depth was 20'. Water temps 64. May provide some entertainment for when the seas are too rough to boat dive in RI. The crane is un-identified and may stay that way since it is encrusted. The New London Day has posted articles about the crane. There are places to penetrate the structure but is quite tight and I would not advise it. The cab and crane frame are present with the cable still attached. Vis was 10ft.

I would consider this more a curiosity dive then anything else.

It can be accessed by boat from Waterford boat launch or the Niantic Marina boat launch.

The fog was pretty thick, the vis on the dive was almost better than the vis in the air!

Not to mention we had a diver on board that kept yelling ODIN!!!! every time we spotted land. I guess it relates to the Viking god Odin thats carved at the head of the viking ships. My ears are still ringing. The nerve of that diver.

Pay no attention to this man, he doesn't even realize that Vikings carved dragons on the bows of their ships, not Odin. :eyebrow:

Crap I read the article wron. It was a statue of Odin and not the front of the ship. Anyway I'm wearing earplugs next voyage in the Fog with this crazy diver.

ODIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ODIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now he's got me yelling it.

Anyone dive eastern point or eatern beach near pfizer? what should I expect...I am supposed to dive it tommarow.

Eastern Point State beach is a good dive if the vis is good. Its a neat wall dive. Its near the mouth of the Thames river so the vis can be finicky. If they let you dive in the left cove thats also a nice beginner dive.
