Niagara River Boat Dives - September 19

Hello,
I have a boat charter reserved for September 19 for 2 drift dives on the Niagara River. Leaving from Fort Erie, ON in the afternoon. Still have about 5 spots left if anyone wants to join us. Also offering the PADI drift diver specialty if desired.

Sounds interesting, how does the current compare to Brockville, would like to try this have to work on some other plans that weekend to make it happen. What does the spot cost and what is dock time?

I think the current is about 2-3 knots. Not exactly sure - milder than St. Lawrence..
Spots are $65 for 2 dives - we'll meet at the dock around 12:30. It's a nice easy relaxing dive.

Lots of people are not sure about knots but the conversion is pretty simple. One knot equals a touch more than 30 metres or a little more than 100 feet per minute.

That means a diver will drift roughly a kilometre in 30 to 35 minutes in a one knot current.

The current in the St Lawrence is variable. I do a lot of long drifts there and one of the most open and exposed to the prevailing current is drifting off the Daryaw. It's not unusual for the current there to be more than one knot, and we have logged it at two and a half but rarely. Two to three knots is a wicked current. Overall average in the Gulf Stream is about two knots (one metre per second). It has been a long while since I dove in the Niagara, but I don't remember the current being that strong.

And you may well be right. I would describe the niagara current to be steady but not wicked. Somewhere I heard those numbers but I have no idea where and it may not have even been in context of niagara.
