Does anyone know if the proposal for Diving for Lobster in NH was shot down again ? I spoke to an officer from F&G and he said it would never get passed, ever.

Why is this such an issue in NH, I'm new to diving for scallops and lobster so I don't yet understand the issues?

You can dive for lobster in Mass., right, why not NH ?

Try heading NE to Maine :) Now there is a state that PROTECTS their commercial interests!

My understanding is because the commerical lobstermen have a very strong lobby and don't want to give up the < 1% catch that they'd loose to divers.

I've not looked into it.. but it appears that there was a sighting of pigs flying in new hampshire!!!

NH Lobster passed: The law to allow NH scuba divers to take lobsters in New Hampshire water passed the NH legislative process. It will take effect on January 1st, 2005 and will be open to NH residents only. Good job to allow those who lobbied their NH state Congressmen/women to get this bill passed.

Spectre says "It was on the Discover Diving newsletter."

Rep. Michael Harrington is the bill's sponsor. Perhaps an email to him would clear things up. On the House of Rep's web page, it says that the bill was marked for further study/consideration/whatever on 2/19/04. So, on the face it doesn't seem like it passed. Pigs are not yet flying in NH or are they?

I've got no idea what's going on. I e-mailed him friday; and I had a friend who is a lobbyist make some phone calls for me. He called her back but she missed the call and we got busy and didn't get a chance to call him back.

I didn't find anything on the house of reps website either. Day checked the daily reports from their current sessions and didn't find anything in there discussing it either. I kinda gave up looking into it since my laptop decided to s**t the bed on friday so I don't have my address book or anything to make a few other phone calls.

Next time I'm over at discover diving;I'm going to see where they got their info from.

I e-mailed Mr.Harrington yesterday as well and have not heard back from him yet. The bill says that it is at F&G but the date is old. I too would like to know where the Newsletter got their info.

For anyone following this thread, here is a response I just recieved from Michael Harrington, who sponsored the Lobster Bill. Does anyone know who our state rep.'s are and how to contact them ?

"Bill, the elected representatives of the people and not Fish and Game decide
what is and is not legal in NH. This bill has gone to interim study. I will
be bringing back an amended version next year. This one will contain a
season ( May to Oct??) and a maximum number of licenses. I feel this will
have a pretty god chance of passing.
What you can do to help is to contact your state rep(s) and senator and let
them know you favor taking of lobsters by SCUBA divers"
