My new Drysuit came today while I was home for lunch. Wow, it seems a lot thicker than my other 7mm wetsuits. A couple observations I made before coming back to work. The "socks" are the thinnest part of the whole suit. They seem even thinner than the wrist and neck seals! I tried putting it part way on, and even using trash bags on each leg, it was kind of a struggle. There is just so much material. The socks are a bit long, but I think they will be okay. I could get my arms in without much trouble, and they seem long enough too. I have kinda long legs and arms. But the neck seal seems quite tight. From the looks of this (neoprene) I don’t think you trim the seals for fit. But I have read about seal stretchers. I’m not sure if it is for neoprene or not. I also read where someone put the neck seal over his scuba tank to “stretch” it. I don’t recall if that was neoprene or not either. I understand that if it’s pretty tight out of the water, it’s going to get even tighter under water, as the air in the suit pushes against it. It looks like I’ll have plenty of room in the suit itself. It isn’t very flattering, since it conforms to your belly, but isn’t a girdle like a wet suit is. I had my slacks and a dress shirt on when I tried it on so I’ll have room for most any undie I’d likely wear. But as heavy as the suit alone is, I don’t think I’ll need much. One other observation is that the exhaust valve is more on the bicep than the shoulder - meaning on the front versus the side of the arm. Is this a problem?
Frank or anyone with experience with neoprene suits have any comments/suggestions?
