Is the NEX6 still relevant for UW photo? I found a good deal with strobes and think it may be a good option . also, are the lens and ports heavy?

RX100 VI is a compact camera (you have it already?) while NEX6 is an (outdated) APS-C system camera...

Whether it is a good option depends on your desires (small/"cheap" compact camera or big&heavy/expensive system camera) and what housing system/lenses/(dome)ports/flashes come along with the offer...

In case you have already the RX100VI, I would certainly not exchange it for a NEX6 (NEX6 has approx. 1 f-stop better DR (3x larger sensor), EVF and is a system camera; Note that the setup (when good lenses are attached and an aluminium housing is used) will be much bigger and heavier compared to RX 100 VI, which is better in all other technical expects (including sensor stabilization and AF))

In case you want a system camera for UW, but at present do not have the money to buy a modern one (e.g. Sony A6700), a cheap used NEX6 system may be o.k. But only when it goes along with a widespread system, preferentially Nauticam. You could build up an entire system and later exchange the pure camera and housing against a modern model, while continuing to use the rest (lenses, (dome)ports, extensions, flashes etc...)

=> In any case an APS-C system based setup will be much more expensive, bigger&heavier and you will have to lug around tons of stuff when traveling

Hi! Thank you so much for your reply.
I currently own the sony rx 100 vi, but am planning on selling it (got it for cheap, was for a special trip, and can sell no problem). The problem is that a sony rx100 vi camera ecosystem would be way too costly.
Given i found the nex6 with all this (see below), for around 1000€, I think it is a no brainer. In terms of lug, the rx100vi, paired with a fantasea, wide angle lens, strobes, tray, arms, macro lens- that kit would be as heavy. So it'd be about the same.
Details for the NEX6:
Camera & Lenses
• Sony NEX-6 Mirrorless Camera
• Sony E-mount 16mm f/2.8 Pancake Lens
• Sony VCF-ECF1 Fisheye Converter
• Sony VCL-ECU1 Ultra Wide Converter
• Sony E-mount 30mm f/3.5 Macro
• Sony E-mount 50mm f/1.8 OSS
• Sony E-mount 18-55mm f/3.5–5.6 OSS
• FIT Achromatic Close-Up Lens (+5 diopter)
Nauticam Housing & Ports
• Nauticam NA-NEX6 Housing
• Nauticam 4.33” Fisheye Port (N85)
• Nauticam Macro Port
• Nauticam 18–55mm Port
• Zoom Gear for 18–55mm lens
Lighting
• 2 x Inon Z240 Type 4 Strobes
• 2 x Fibre Optic Cables
• 4 x Float Arms
• 6 x Arm Clamps
Accessories
• Numerous spares, o-rings, and seals
• Peli Storm Case iM2550 (insert, rugged and waterproof).

For all this, the deal seems very good no? just a bit old. let me know what you think and thank you again!!

Hi Vincent,

As said, a NEX6 may be good for the beginning, but soon you will want to get a better camera & housing.
Since it is a Nauticam system, you can continue to use lenses & ports when you upgrade later.
I never had the Sony fisheye nor WA converter in my hands, but I have read multiple times that they have low IQ. Very likely you will want to replace the WA part later as well...

It depends whether the items are in a good condition and for how long the flashes will continue to work (nobody can predict the latter). In case the items are o.k., it may be a good bargain for beginning (but keep in mind that you will want to upgrade soon and this will cost several $$$$s)...

In case you are not able/planning to invest a hughe amount of money in midterm future, a used TG-6 in Isotta or Nauticam housing with flash(es) may be a better investment of 1000 Euros...
