Hello everybody! Newly certified in San Diego. Always have been interested and finally signed up and got my OW with my wife.

My wife and I have been mainly doing shore dives in La Jolla and plan to continue to practice and travel. We are planning to dive Catalina/channel islands in the next year. I would love to have any recommendations for sites around San Diego and California in general!

Happy to be here!

Congrats to you and your wife on the certification!

La Jolla Cove and the Marine Room(also La Jolla Shores but you swim out in front of the Marine Room restaurant). There's also Wreck Alley off Point Loma once you get AOW/Wreck certified(if you want to go into one of the ships). I think you can go with OW cert but would be more enjoyable after AOW to see everything. I haven't been yet but it's on my list.

Welcome to SB! I got certified in SD when I lived out there many years ago. Interesting diving with the kelp and all, but a little chilly for me. I never really dived locally.

Thanks! We did our open water dives from La Jolla shores so we have done 2 more dives out to the trench since. We plan to do Marine room and the cove soon!

Planning on AOW next year after we dive a bit, and so we can spread out the cost more. Everything is double with 2 people haha.

I feel ya there with the costs! Scuba diving is so fun but startup costs can be quite a bit. There are deals to be had on offerup and FB marketplace if you're okay with 2nd hand gear, just make sure to get things serviced/inspected if you do get it 2nd hand.

Power Scuba and Two Divers Below are two dive groups in case you're looking to meet more divers and such. Enjoy and will probably see you around at the beach!

Haha I’ve only dived here so cold is all I know 😂. We are going to Hawaii this year so I’m excited to dive in warmer waters.
