I pretty much know nothing about bp/w's. I only have a few dives under my belt and want to buy my own gear, since I live in FL having gear will open up alot of chances for diving. I was set on a Scubapro Knighthawk since that's what my LDS carries and praises. However, after some researching I see that the Knighthawk would quickly start collecting dust once my diving progressed and moved toward tech. In order to save money and just get the good stuff now I have decieded on a DSS SSbp/w and Hog harness but have some questions. What are the main differences between the LCD and the Torus wings? I like the rear pull dump on bc's, it seems eaiser for me to stick my butt up and pull the rear dump than raise my shoulders and twist for little adjustments. I see a rear dump on the torus but not the LCD? As far as lift goes, I'm 5'10" 148lbs and can get away w/ 6-8lbs w/ a jacket bc and full 3mi wetsuit and al80. I will be diving mostly warm water and probably switch to a steel tank.

I have a friend with the LCD wing and I have to say it's real slick. The business about horsehoe wings being harder to vent than donuts for single tanks is crazy. The reason people say that, I'm almost 100% sure, is because they're comparing large horshoes to small donuts....(did I really write that?)

I would go with the LCD. Believe me, on wings that small, the horshoe/donut controversy is nuts. The LCD really hugs the tank. You could repair it on a trip if necessary, at least theoretically. There is a hip dump on both wings.

But, if you only need 6-8 lbs with a 3mm, AL80, and standard BC, you're likely to be negative with no lead in the same suit, SS plate, and steel tank. Sorry dude...kydex plate! (or whatever that plastic is)

I have the LCD 30 wing and it is a nice small wing that tucks up real tight by the tank, the worst part about it is wiping other divers drool off it at the end of a days diving.

I'm 177cm, 95kg and I am neutral about 1m underwater with an empty AL80 and 3mm wetsuit carrying 4kg weight. Like mattboy says, if you go steel tank with steel BP, I think you will be quite negative.

The LCD has the rear dump. I have the Torus and my girl has the LCD. Both good wings, but you can't use either of the single tanks wings for doubles. If you are in Florida in a 3mm the LCD 20 or Torus 26 may work for you. I am surprised Coolhardware hasn't posted hear yet. Anyway just call DSS and talk to Tobin. He'll help you, but be ready to answer some questions.

How positive is your suit?
How negative is your rig?

Are just a couple of questions he'll ask before fitting you with a good wing.

I just received my LCD 30, SS BP with Hog Harness and will be diving it Saturday for the first time so I can't give you feedback on the rig yet. What I can tell you is, give Tobin a call or PM. He was extremely patient with me and helped me with my selection. Great customer service!
