Hi - apologies in advance, as I'm pretty sure this been addressed before, but I couldn't find any threads in the first few pages.

I've just purchased a G-10 (w/ Fisheye housing). I'll be using it with my older S&S YS-90 Auto strobe. I've got the space on my card, so I'll be shooting in Raw + JPEG.

My question relates to your recommendations on WB settings. What's best for the G-10? UW mode? Manual? Auto, then adjust in post processing (I do have access to PS/CS3, but am fairly inexperienced)?

As I'm still learning the basics of photography, I'd prefer to pre-set as much as possible (for example set to Av mode, ISO 100), then play with only a couple of variables. Should white balance be one of those variables or is there something I can stick with for most shots?

Thanks in advance for any help.

-HPD

If it is a strobe picture.. would just leave in auto and correct in raw later (if the strobe color temperature is off, which it is with my YS110's..)

Not using the strobe and you will want to do a manual white balance.. which is about as easy to do as any camera I have used...you have two... just aim at something you know is roughly white (I carry a slate with me.. or if I know the sand or there is washed out coral).. and following the very simple directions. It will save it until you do it again. But if you are very deep, realize that normal dive lights, for example, will be red...

The underwater one works if you are in clear, shallow water...but for something quick.. it works.

I shoot RAW only on the G10 and don't worry about WB until time to convert from RAW.

For strobe, I use Cloudy WB setting.
Without strobe, I reset to custom WB depending on whether I changed depth. I try to remember to switch back to "Cloudy" for strobe shots. Yes it's all fixable in SW afterward if you use RAW, but I like the JPGs to look nice too.
Call me crazy, but if I'm doing video, I use a red filter as well as WB.

Goooood stuff, everyone. Many thanks!

With regard to a slate, I've got a white slate that I use for communicating/notes while diving. I assume that would work just as well as some $50 WB slate.
