I'll second the opinion that you should get certified before diving. It's just too easy to become another accident statistic in this sport if you aren't properly trained. Just check out the Accidents and Incidents forum for plenty of examples, one of which happened this weekend.

On the other hand, we'd love to have you dive with us when you finish your OW course. The Florida Conch Divers are a great group, with lots of fine divers in your part of the state who could give you some great buddy dives after you finish your course.

And I will third it. Getting certified is more than just a c-card so you can rent gear, get tanks filled, etc. OW gives you the basis of recreational scuba diving. Get certified and have fun. We do.....
