I guess both are important to me. I think i will start with the dslr and slowly build my rig. If that doesn't do it, then get a dedicated hd video cam.

Great.. Scuba, analog synthesizers, and now underwater photo... wish i picked some less expensive interests!!

Also do you use any filters when shooting? Or do you let photoshop handle that?

No filters for me. Canon's raw processor (Digital Photo Professional) or Photoshop camera raw for initial processing, photoshop for final touches if needed on stills. Custom WB at depth and Premiere pro for editing video (final cut works great as well).
