I didn't know if I should post this in the local market place or on the regular forums, but I wanted to let you all know that for the first time (that I know of) in its 30 year history, White Star Quarry will be open for diving on New Year's Day. I have already heard from about a dozen people who are planning on attending the dive. The scuba concession building will be heated and we are heating the changing rooms for the day, so we are planning on diving regardless of the weather. As of last Sunday, there was still no ice on the quarry, the visibility was at least 50 ft and the water temperature was just under 40 degrees.
We are planning on having FREE coffee, hot chocolate, soup and hotdogs for anyone who shows up to dive. It is something new for us and so we would like to see a great turnout.
Since tradition is so strong, going to a new place for new years may not be your thing. In that case you are welcome to join us for diving on January 5-6, February 2-3 and March 1-2. We will probably have ice by February.
If you want me to get the park to open the quarry on other days PM me and we can talk about arrangments.
Looking forward to diving with you.
Happy New Year!
Rich
