I wonder what the depth is in that area. It was built in 86, so her service life was nearing the end anyways which would preclude a salvage attempt.

It is said to have gone down about 20 miles off Prachuap Khiri Khan. Based on the charts that should put it in about 40-50 meters of seawater. The Gulf of Thailand is pretty shallow overall.
