We have located and identified a new airplane wreck off Point Mugu, California while diving on the DV Triton with Danny Graham. The wreck is a F6F-5K Hellcat Drone sitting about 60m / 200' deep. The full story along with photos and a photogrammetry model are posted at:
I also provided some background and cool information about the Hellcat Drones. They were converted after WW II with the surplus of Hellcats that we had. They were used in the Korean War to bomb bridges, in Bikini to monitor the atmosphere after the bombs exploded, etc. There is a very funny story about a rogue drone that evaded 208 (yes, 208!) missiles and crashed in Palmdale.
It is a beautiful wreck covered in fish and strawberry anemones and I counted at least 6 wolf eels.
Below is a screen capture of the photogrammetry model:
We hope you enjoy it.

Intro Tyler had a list of targets that we had looked at earlier this year which resulted in the Hellcat wreck and then also the Squeezer Dredge barge. We had scanned a few others during those trips…
