Over the weekend our team located a new wreck in 95'-110' in Bedwell Bay, near the VT100. We have sent the video to the experts at the UASBC and they seem fairly certain that is is the wreck of an early 20th century vessel.

The initial exploration video can be seen here: Bedwell Bay Mystery Wreck

A trip report that will help you find the wreck is on our website: 2011-03-13

We like to share any wrecks we discover with the BC's diving community as quickly as is practical. We are returning to the site in a few weeks time to conduct a site survey in hopes of figuring out what type of vessel it was - and ideally which vessel it was.

We ask that nobody remove anything from the site. Also, we have placed a cave line the length of the wreck which marks the location of the survey baseline - so please leave it as is.

Safe diving.

Chris

It can't be that old, Chris. It's in better shape than the VT100... Wait... it probably wasn't burned by vandals or dynamited for its propeller...

Excellent find. Congratulations and thanks for sharing!

I think it was probably built in the early 20th century but most likely sunk later. A lot of old wooden ships had second careers when they were cut down into barges. Many of these barges were moored in the Bedwell Bay and either sunk from neglect, were scuttled, or were torched... It makes an ID pretty tricky. We still don't have any idea what ship we found outside of Bedwell Bay in 230'. Probably similar story. So now BC has three "Bedwell Bay Mystery Wrecks"...
