What are people's thoughts on the new trend of attaching Octo by way of shoving it through a D-ring or a special strap on the BCD shoulder strap?

A burst LP hose waiting to happen 🤔

I've seen them way more bent than this with a ton of ridges in the outer casing.....

Didn't know that it is a new trend, have been seeing divers do that for more than 30 years.

Many rentalsl shops, liveaboard etc. do not have any other means to secure the octo, the most straightforward improvised method is looping it through D ring, as in your pic.

I suppose someone with his own gear will usually have a dedicated octo holder., because why not?

Yeah perhaps the wrong phrasing. Perhaps I should have said "is becoming the norm"

I've seen it in the past.... But it seems to be that it's now the defacto way.

No, I'm just a recreational diver.

It just seems to me that as in the picture creating kinks in the outer casing is obviously placing strain on the hose.
Hoses are not a forever thing and you should probably replace them long before there is an issue from doing this.

I think the greater risk is the shoulder dump pull becoming caught in the hose loop, making it difficult to quickly free the "octopus" from the d-ring and potentially dumping air from the donator's BC at the same time.

not really new they where doing it in 2005 when i start diving. before a burst happem that way is unlikely to happen. My hose for my reg on my poney bottle is pretty much in the same position hold by band retainer around my tank.
