Trying to find something new to sink some cash into....was thinking about underwater digital photography. I am looking at spending 2500 bucks, max, on a digital camera/housing and strobe(?). I want something that is usefull (and expandable) in most all realms of underwater photography, i.e. closeups and underwaterscapes (landscapes). And here is the kicker the system has got to be able to go fairly deep (250ft). Most of my research on the internet has only found housing rated to 200 ft. Will they work past this depth?

Is this possible or do I need more cash?

Forgive my stupidity. I know nothing of underwater photography (YET!).

A start would be to contact Chris Bangs, who I believe is in Guam. If you are not taking above water pictures, you better start now. It does not get any easier taking pictures with the camera in a housing, viewing through a dive mask, bringing your own lights and air then fighting a strong current in order to take a picture. Not a good time to be learning focusing, exposure and composition.... underwater.

Good Luck

Ciao Bigbob
Chris Bang beside doing some very very nice UW picture can really give you good advices. He did with me so I do not know why he shouldn’t with you.

If you are a beginner he will for sure help you a lot.

I am posting you some of the few site where you can find plenty of info regarding UW photography.

Camera set for 200 feets can easily go deeper than this. I think from what I read at least 10% more without problem. If you go deeper more than leak your push button will stop working.

With USD 2500 I think you can start to have a very nice setting material. Take into consideration that if you want a housing resisting to high pressure investment will be higher.

Sure other from the board and more experienced will give you some good advice…
