What are you all arguing about? Upstate California, Central California????? I'm from New York ... we all know there's no life, art or anything west of the Hudson River! Ask Ed Koch, the former majory ;)

Okay, are there any good diving spots around SF or LA? Any LDS worth calling on?

Yeah there's good diving around LA but not around SF. You have to go north up to Sonoma County or Mendocino County. Some people from LA will tell you that Northern diving sucks, but I can tell you that they are wimps. Most of them can't handle rough cold water with low vis. We thrive on it. We wouldn't have it any other way.

The rewards for those who are willing to master the skills needed to dive the North Coast greatly out number any initially percieved inconveniences.

There are 2 kinds of divers in the world, Northern California divers and those who have never dove Northern California.
If you can dive up here you can dive anywhere.

What are you talking about we don't have any art? Every time I put my face under the waves here I see God's most masterful creation of art in the history of the
Earth!

I was the guy with the dark grey boat that day at Ocean Cove with Dale (scuba cowboy).
We'll have to get out there this spring and find some cool places to dive!

Post a picture of your boat!! lets see it

Seriously, when I've dived in other places around the world and you tell them you dive Northern California, you seem to get more respect than warm water divers. Although they might just respect our tenacity/doggedness for lugging around twice as much weight as their other clients just to swim in sub 50 degree water. :eyebrow:

Okay, I'll give you that and good Chinese Food. ;)

Thanks for the info, though I hear from the Northeast divers that 50 degree water is balmy...??? Same guys who's motto is the 3 D's ... deep, dark and dangerous. You know the type, go for the Doria and anything else un-discovered at 250+.

Are there any dive operators north of SF?

No, they cannot make a living in these cold rough conditions.
The nearest operator is in SF bay but they do shark dives out at the Farallons.
Other than that they start in Monterey.
