Hello Divers,
My name is David and I am currently residing in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. I am heading to the first meeting for scuba diving. If you can give me any tips from your knowledge when you first started. I will appreciate it as for what not to purchase and what is good to have and so on. I thought this hobby would be a great way of freeing my mind.

as a newly certified diver myself, I think the best advice is to be patient, pay attention to your instructors, and have fun!
I was very fortunate to have been able to go to the Bahamas to get certified, and from what I've read here, the crytal clear water certainly helps; my (non-diving) wife could see shark shadows @ 100ft from the boat.
As with any class, another factor to consider is how comfortable you are with you instructors, but this is especially important in the water - if you're not comfortable with them, then you won't have fun, and that is what this is all about!
My wife is insisting that we return there (Grand Bahamas Scuba - Meet Fred Riger) for my daughters to learn, and for someone who doesn't like to get wet, that says alot for her confidence in Fred, and especially in Melinda. So guess where I'm going in June???

David! I'm fairly new too, as for free your mind...this will free your body! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I went into my local dive shop just to purchase defog for my snorkeling mask and came out signed up for discover scuba...well, the rest is history! I"M ADDICTED! Hopefully, you'll be too.
