Greetings! I am brand new to the area and am working in Waterford for the summer. My wife and are relatively new divers (12 logged) and wanted to inquire about the area. I found Avery Point in Groton and Pleasure Beach just up the road from where we are. Has anyone done Pleasure Beach recently? Is it still legal to dive there?

Any other tips or fun locations in the area?

Also, for anyone who rents gear, where do you like to rent gear? We brought wetsuites, masks, fins, etc. but we would need BCD, regs, tanks, and weights.

Thanks so much! I really love this area!

I would recommend Divers Cove in Essex for rentals (exit 3 off rt 9). You can dive the pleasure beach but there is no diving from the boat launch and you have to finagle your way in.

Stonington Point is a better dive but you have to go in early before 9am or late after 4-5 pm and there is no diving from the rocks.

Maybe you may want to join us for a Divers Cove fun dive and possibly plan a RI trip sometime. Right now vis is bad due to the stormy weather but it will get better later on.

Thanks a lot for the tips. Is there a posting somewhere on when those trips from Divers Cove might happen?

Yea

Usually every Wednesday night, I plan on being at the next one provided I feel the ocean has settled down enough. Right now the ocean is quite soupy at the shores due to all the weather disturbances.
