Hi Sean,
after reading my post again, I want to make sure I am clear about what I write.... I am very happy with the dive boat and the trip in general, I was just surprised about the way my question was answered when I asked about pairing up. If you want the name of the boat I will tell you by email... I dont think it is cool to post it on here, they did nothing wrong. It was in Monterey by the way.
I think their policy is to not interfere with your decision to dive, which is pretty cool in my book. They let you take responsibility for your own safety which is the way it should be in life....not just in diving.
I think I made a mistake by not finding/bringing a buddy with me ahead of time. When it comes down to it, trying to pair up at the last moment is not the best choice since neither of you know anything about the other diver's experience or how they will react to certain situations. After this other guy had problems and looked very panicky... I was kind of glad I wasn't tied to him by a divemaster or the captain....it would have ruined my trip and I cant afford to blow $100 every sunday diving. I don't blame the other diver... I could just have easily had a problem that would have made me miss the dive.
I would definately dive on the same boat again, but I will go with my SO or find someone to go with ahead of time. I called the dive shop to ask if anyone wanted to carpool but never got a response back. Maybe for the same reason as above, nobody knows how I dive or if I will be holding them up from what they like to do.
