Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I have been lurking here the past week or so, and I have decided to come out of lurking. This is a great board! I have learned quite a bit by just reading the posts from all you knowlegeable people.

I just obtained my Open Water certification last weekend after doing my open water dives in a local quarry. I am really excited to get into scuba diving. My first post-cert diving will be in Hawaii in December. I cannot wait!!!

Cheers,
Betty

Welcome to the board diver girl,
this is a great place for lots of great info on diving.

Howdy!

And welcome to SB - the biggest, the best, the fastest growing, and :D the friendliest!
Be sure to check out our New2Scuba forum.

Completing your Profile with location and seperately - your Dive Info will help in future diving discussions. You can use the Quick Links menu above for this. Sizing a photo for your profile or Avatar can be a challenge; I'm a fumbling amateur, but I get the job done, if you'd like any help?

PM me if I can help you learn your way around; that is - click my username to the upper left, then follow the prompts to send me a "Personal Message."

And if you're going to be in Houston this Saturday - for the DEMA show or any other reason, you're even invited to a SB Bar-B-Q dinner! Click here: http://scubaboard.com/t73366-swampers-bbq-update-and-current-info.html or PM me for assistance in signing up for it. Dee wanted to know sooner, but she can squeeze a few in late. I'm leaving for the airport during the night to catch a 8am plane. I wouldn't miss this for anything! :thumb:

Betty,

Welcome to SB. Glad you've come out of the shadows, and congrats on the OW certification.

Ummm, one word of unsolicited advice. If you were certified during the second week of October, and your next dives are in Hawaii in December, thats two months from now. You might find it useful to call up your diveshop or instructor and see if you can get even pooltime in between now and departing for Hawaii, if you can't get any open water dives in. You really don't want to let two months go by in between your OW cert dives and your next dives! :)

Dive safe,

Doc

I'm new to this too. The board, that is. I've gotten so much info here I felt I had to join. You'll love Hawaii. There's a great little shore dive on Kauai called koloa landing (spelling?). Really easy, about 30 feet and I don't remember any current. I hope it's still in good shape. It's been a few years.

Hello, good to see another new diver/SB member. Take the advice and dive in between. It will keep your skills up and it's a BLAST!!

It may be a funner trip if you've already tucked a few dives under your belt. don't be afraid to do your checkout dives at home in colder waters. I found that if I could dive in a relaxed state feeling like gumby I was all the more at home blowing bubbles with less gear. I don't know about anybody else, but I'd rather be looking at interesting stuff than showing someone I don't know that I can clear my mask. Two months really is a long time, given your situation.
